College Credit Opportunities

for West Chester Area School District High School Students

in the Business and Information Technology Department

Students at both East and Henderson High Schools can earn up to nine (9) college credits through programs now established between the West Chester Area School District and Delaware County Community College (DCCC).

A dual enrollment agreement between the West Chester Area School District and DCCC was recently completed and will allow high school students to earn college credit at no cost to the student.

Students who successfully complete Technology Essentials and Microcomputer Applications are eligible for three credits from DCCC for DPR 100 Introduction to Computers.

Students who successfully complete Programming for the Web and Web Design and Internet Technologies are eligible for three credits for IMM120 Web Page Development.

All four of the courses are taught by West Chester teachers in each of the high schools.  Participating students will need to submit the College application for admission which can be obtained from the guidance offices or from the teachers of the respective course.  An official secondary transcript and an enrichment form with parent/guardian signature must also be submitted. Students’ performance will be recorded as official academic history.  The credits can be transferable into comparable courses of study at many four year institutions at the discretion of that college or university.  Each student will automatically be accepted to DCCC and will receive a transcript directly from DCCC.

West Chester Area School District students may also participate in an Internship Program at West Chester University through its Internet Presentations Group.  The IPG was founded in 1995 and is considered to be one of the oldest web design businesses in Pennsylvania. The student intern spends a minimum of ten hours per week at the WCU Graduate Business Center.  This is an ideal opportunity for juniors and seniors who are interested in careers in Web Design and/or Business (Accounting and Marketing).  The Web Design Internship and Business Internship are non-paid programs.  However, students will earn West Chester University credit.

Those students enrolled in Microcomputer Applications can also take the globally recognized Microsoft Office Certification exams (MOS) in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.  Students can apply for college credit through the American Council on Education (ACE) member institutions.
